Well, this morning was spent stripping the interior out to assess the hidden bits of shell and it doesn't look too bad, it appears to have survived remarkably well. The spare wheel wells are the worst bits, being almost non-existent, there is some rot around the throttle pedal mount, O/S/R inner w/arch, a bit under the bonnet hinge mounts and the bottom of the box section under the radiator. a lot of the rest of it just needs a good wire brush and fresh paint.

It looks pretty original apart from the B20 engine, that came with the 1969 model. 1970 saw the advent of the heated rear window. Yours seems to have the plastic channeling down the sides that go into the boot and then up to the rear window. The nozzels look right aswell. On my 1967 these are long and thin. 1968-9 they were square shaped. You seem to have the plastic vent that goes from the heater via the central tunnel to feed hot/cold air to the back seats. Don´t chuck these bits as they are hard to find, too many been chucked while -modding-.
Biggest difference in the engine bay (apart from the B20) is that yours should have the ATE master brake cylinder. It has just one reservior feeding both circuits. 1967 only, they had an american Lockheed Wagner master cylinder which is best detected by the two -pots- on the top. I´ve managed to get a brand new one of these still in it´s box. Worth gold as they only had that model one year and they were never put on any other car. I searched the states for one but no luck.... I´ve got the original parts catalogue if you need any copies (and a brand new grill hanging up in the cellar lol)

Looks like you might have a bit of rust hiding under the sound deadening on your rear wheel arches. A lot of them seem to go there.
I was wondering what are the white knobs below the wiper and headlight switches on the dashboard? I've not seem them before. |

I thought being a late 1968 it should be a B20? It does have the ATE master cylinder, its missing in the picture as i took it off because the seals are shot.
Not sure what the white switches are for, I was hoping someone on here may know!! You may be right about the N/S/R arch, next weekend is car up on stands to have proper poke underneath. |

Could be one of the first with B20. Volvo has always vamped things up for export, as opposed to the home (Swedish) market. Could ask the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg (get the motor number and chassi number).
Haven´t seen the white knobs before, probably not standard. The grey one on the left in the photo is though. The wheel houses rust something like a Rover P6 lol, if they haven´t been looked after As the master cylinder is cast iron, they are usually very pitted on the inside due to water corroding them. You might be lucky with new seals, check the cylinder first... On second thoughts, the grey knob doesn´t look standard either..

well i still havent decided on a 142 or 242 , both are LHD .
it has rust in all the usual places including the wheelarches , repair panels are available. GT models could be had without the wheel wells , it does make them look prettier . (or is that the 242 im thinking of )

Grey button in photo is the odometer trip reset, panel dimmer is the opposite side.
Couldn't wait until the weekend to have poke underneath so had a quick look this evening, and again all seems pretty positive. Sill to floor joins good, jacking points pretty good, box sections underfloor and rear suspension mounts all solid too. Rear shock mounts bit scabby but not catastrophic. The worst section underneath appears to be the box section under the radiator which is pretty nasty on the O/S, fortunately it hasn't really got a hold of the chassis leg. |

Okay, mine is black. Seems asthough it´s basically sound. What´s the chassis number?
