Fuel pump or filter ?
Today when i got to work and opened the rear offside door as usual to get my rucksack i could smell petrol, had a look under car just in front of rear wheel, and could see petrol dripping from what i thought was the fuel pump, a friend from work had a look and he thinks it is just the fuel filter, it only has one pipe front and rear and at the back is a pressure valve? similar to the one on the fuel rail under bonnet, just wondered if anyone can shed any more positive info on this, almost forgot can't see any sign of electrical connectors.

yes thats the filter , you need to find out exactly where the fuel is coming from , maybe a leaking non volvo filter?

Thanks, it appears to be dripping from the filter itself where the bolt holds the filter in the bracket, could the filter become porous itself?

Will do, do you know how the connectors come off at each end and does it have to be de pressurised first?

quick release couplings ,press in the collar at the filter end of the coupling and pull off . You will get a small release of fuel so use an absorbant towel or similar .

To put your mind even more at rest... The pump is inside the tank. Access is from a plate under the boot floor into the tank

This happens due to the stap that holds the filter on starts to rust through the filter after a few thousand miles mine did it after about 20k of me forgetting to change it on my 850 ever since then I change them now when I do my oil and filters
I found to get. You to the motor factors with out costing a fortune in petrol if you can turn the filter 90deg the hole is at the top and it won't run out as easy |
