Default Lights

Hi,

Iv'e got a 2002 v40 tdi,I got told the lights allways stay on but mine are off.

You have to put these on yourself.

Did the previous owner switch it off himself and can I put these back on ?

Also when my lights are on and I open the door or when I switch my car off and if i forgot to switch the lights off then on my previous car it make a beeing noise to notify you have left the lights on but mine doesn't do this,is it mean't to beep or not ?

I'm asking because iv'e left the lights on a few times and next morning the battery is dead.

Thanks again Ash

that rotary knob , on the Right of the steering wheel,, its the lights switch
off = off all of them
middle pos = sidelights/marker lights > STAY on when the key is out (leads to flat battery)
ON = On , allows you to see in the dark and use "high/main beam" (recomended to use in the dusk/dark/dawn times) Recomended to turn to "OFF" when park the car

no "buzzer" or "beeper" on s/v40s for a lights on reminder. not needed as if the lights are set to "ON" and the key is out, they go off, its only when you use the middle pos that they stay on (for parking, in unlighted area's , set the Indicator stalk to left/right to light JUST that sides rear + front lights, leave in netural possition - both sides front/rear on)

Maybe the previous owner turned off the DLRs but then set the lights to the middle position, perhaps re-enable the DLRs and turn the lights all the way to the left in the 'off' position, but will still come on if the DRL setting has been activated.

It sounds as if a previous owner has deactivated the DLRs. If you have the car handbook it tells you how to switch them back on again on the pages covering the light switch.

If you haven't got a handbook shout and I'll check the process in mine and let you know.

With DLRs on you will have headlights etc on even with light switch at "0". They will automatically come on and go off with the ignition. The major difference is that with DLRs you cannot have main beam on (just flash) - lights need to be switched on fully for that.

As others have said, the only lights that will stay on are parking lights if you leave the switch at the middle position - no way around that other than being careful! Don't understand why Volvo didn't include a "beep" warning - there's one on my 480! Costs savings I imagine...

Process for switching on/off DRL's is as follows.

Turn light switch to Sidelights (Between 9 and 12 o'clock)
Pull and hold main beam lever
Turn light switch to off (0)
Release main beam lever.
