While an older thread just had the same problem with my 1998 940 lpt estate. Had to get it carried back home on Saturday evening. Leaving the negative connection on the battery off over night made no difference, however by taking off the positive leads from the battery terminal and cleaning all of them put all the connections back on, locked the car with the key, then unlocked the car with the key and all was working. Batteries in fob dead when tested, Volvo seem to recommend changing every year, I have had these over 5 years so perhaps my fault!

It opens fine for me where he reposted later in post #18. A lot of the earlier attachments were lost in an upgrade or move to a new provider many years ago.
