Cheers Andrew, I don’t need telling twice to not meddle with unknown things😀😀

I didn’t really have faith in the old girl to take me and the missus and the hounds to Wells last week, so took her RAV 4

First day there, we took the hounds round Sandringham for a nice walk, lovely 2 hour stroll, get back to car park, paid the parking on the new fangled machines that give you grace period to actually leave.

Get to car, and NSF totally flat, oh FFS 😡😡

Fortunately with her RAV4 it has spare hanging on back of the rear door, so a very quick tyre change was executed. Mud and crap everywhere, luckily the car park surface was reasonably dry and stable, but was just compacted gravel, still made me sweat having it balanced on a spindly scissor jack

Tyre had massive flat spot, and would not fit back under the hard spare cover on the rear door, so wheel into car, hook the cover back on, and head for the exit.

To great relief I was able to exit car park without needing to pay further, trundling back through Brancaster near thenWhite Horse, a great big crash sounds from behind, followed by the sound of the hard spare tyre cover bouncing along Brancaster street ……. 🙄🙄

Of course the sort of chap I am, I sent t’missus to recover the debris, fortunately the massive Range Rover following didn’t run over it though😀😀😀

We’re not doing very well this year, she melted my Wentworth, and I’m being blamed for her spare cover needing attentions of bodywork chap.👍👍

Enjoy your trip😀😀

Cheers
Steve

Yep, although actually in the grand scheme of things we did have a giggle about it in hindsight😀😀

Cheers

There is a sort of Volvo gauge gremlin that goes away with use. I had a 940 the speedometer of which would not work for a length of time proportionate to how long the car had been standing unused. It would then burst into life and work faultlessly. I never did get to the bottom of that one.

You're on fairly safe ground changing dash bulbs and the dash is fairly easy to remove on a 940, especially if you don't have the HPT turbo gauge installed.

The dash bulbs are nothing special. Five standard 3W capless for the illumination and the rest are 1.2w capless. They are often a firm fit in their holders leading people to assume they are like some of the other Volvo bulbs with integral caps.

If all the dash illumination is out it may not be the bulbs. The dimmer can sometimes play up.

If you want to be extra safe, disconnect the battery negative lead before removing the cluster. There are some permanent live connections on there (e.g. the clock) and with the kind of luck you're having at the moment you could end up shorting something.

Hi Steve

Dash bulbs can be changed without removing the dash. Just remove the kick panel and go in from behind the dash. Larger black holders illuminate the dials and the smaller blue ones do all the warning lights at the bottom

Hi Forrest,

Thank you for the response, and I think I will leave sleeping dogs lie and leave the cluster well alone, especially in light of Mark's (Griston64) suggestion that they can be done from below the kick panel.

Hopefully the temp gauge issue is just a gremlin, but I will have to remember to keep a close eye on it.

The dimmer and heated window switches etc are lit up behind the switches, and dimmer seems to work on these.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Mark,

Well that sounds a much more less intrusive way of doing the bulbs, although I may need to bulk up on cod liver oil supplements to contort myself into the footwell

Cheers

It's realatively easy Steve. Once you removed the kick panel ( three or four torx screws and a clip on the right you just lie on your back in the footwell

I've done it quite a few times

I can find them made for m47s, but not m90s.

For the 850 it is a triangular plate that goes on the gearbox. I can alter the M90 gear stick to be a shorter throw
