Smile S40 DRL disabling. 2009 model

Hello folks,
I have just registered on this forum and would like to say hello to all!
I have just found out that, if I wish to improve my dipped headlight output using upgrade xenon lamps (to improve night vision, as the standard 55w bulbs are not too good) is pretty pointless if you have the DRL enabled. These bulbs only have a life of 400-500 hours, which is soon run up if the lights are on all the time. So, I ask, how do you disable the DRL on the new 2009 model S40?
I will be very grateful for any help you can offer.

Many thanks,
Catesby.

Welcome to the forum. There are many threads on here regarding the quality of the light beam on the S40 and I agree with you that it is feeble. I put in the stronger beams and discovered soon after, about 3 months, that they and DRL's do not mix. The general advice is that the Philip's Extreme last the longest, I went for Osrams and they went in no time.

From previous threads I am pretty certain that to get the DRL turned off you have to go into the dealers. Some will charge approx £40, some will do it for free.

Incidentally you may want to see if your beam is pointing too low into the ground. I raised mine as they were set too low and that helped a little although they still get outshined by my wife's little Fiat 500. The shame of it.

Yes you'll need to visit your dealer to turn them off.

I've got the Phillips Xtreme Power's in mine and I got a bodyshop to raise the beam on their machine and the headlights are vastly improved now (albeit 'on' all the time) actually they've been on DRL's for 8 months solid, maybe an hour a day average.
