Default Quick replies appreciated - how much for brake pads / discs?

Hi there,

Got a grinding noise from the rear passenger side when braking, looks like I might have left it too long to replace pads so may now be looking at disc too. No scoring on disc so unlikely to be stone etc.

Booked into local ATS Euromaster in half an hour for a look. Phoned local Volvo dealer to get guideline price for pad/disc/both/fitting but their service dept is busy so might not have info back to me before I go.

If anyone here has had pads, discs, or both replaced reasonably recently (last couple of years) either at a dealer or independent garage would you mind telling me how much you paid and whether that was for one corner or more?

I know it's not that difficult a job to do oneself but I've never done it and don't feel confident. But prices for parts alone would also be helpful if anyone wants to contribute that.

Looking to have some pricing knowledge before I head down to ATS. Thanks all.

Volvo dealer wanted around £400 for front discs and pads, and around £350 for the rears and that is with discount.

Dealer charged me £200 for rear pads only (both sides) on my XC60 earlier in the year.

ATS said £400 for both rear pads & discs. Dealer got back to me with £440 for same. Booked in for tomorrow. Been recommended a local mechanic who does work on your driveway so waiting for him to call back to compare price. My own fault but still annoying there’s no inbuilt sensor or whatever to just say when pads need changing.

If serviced properly you should never get into that situation .👍🏻

Well I bought the five-year service plan at purchase so only ever been main dealer serviced. Not sure what that says.

It says to me that it's probably not entirely your fault. When was it last serviced and what mileage have you done since?

Kind of you to say but I suspect I ought to have booked one of those free Halfords / Kwik Fit brake checks before or during winter. Last serviced May 2019, no idea of mileage in between but will be well under 12k (probably under 10k) as my average annual mileage is about 7-8k usually.
