Default Should I get an XC60 again?

Good Afternoon Forum Members,

Tomorrow I was on my was to pick us a used 2015 Volvo XC60. D5 AWD Auto SE Lux. 76,000 miles. Full main dealer service history. Buying from a Volvo dealer under Volvo Selekt with a 12 month warranty. 4 total owners from new.

I was quite happy with this choice, I use to have a D4 almost exactly the same as the above 65 plate previously, that I never had issues with, but had to sell a few years ago when Covid came due to change in circumstances.

I ended up getting a 2008 Honda civic as a run around until things got better. The civic I had nothing but problems with and am at my wits end, now in a better position to make a change back.

The mechanic that came out today to finish putting something back together before I trade in, basically said I’m making a huge mistake and got lucky with my last Volvo and it will be nothing but problems…. I have asked others too who are all like it sounds risky buying a 7 year old Volvo….

Are they right in general or am I just being paranoid?

I get anyone can get unlucky and buy a lemon of car, but in general should I be okay?

I think you need a new mechanic....

I'm on my second XC60, I have a 2016 D4 (was a company car) and now a 2015 D5 (my own) it's done 146k with no major issues. I wouldn't have much else.

The Selekt warranty is a good package - you should expect to get to 150k+ with no major expense in addition to servicing.

My 7 year old XC60 has been more reliable in the last 12 months than colleagues who have had a VW Tiguan, Honda Civic, Mercedes C-Class and Land Rover Evoque all under 2 years old driven by colleagues.

Tannaton that sounds reassuring to know!

The 4 owners was kind of putting me off but apparently the last owner has had it since 2017.

I really loved my last Volvo.

4 owners in 7 years isn't massively excessive especially the last one being 5 of those years.

It does perhaps indicate either it was registered as a demo or hire car though. This wouldn't put me off

Probably better to think of it as 4 registered keepers....

My dad bought an XC70 as an ex-demo once which had Volvo UK and then the dealer as previous keepers - still only done 1,300 miles.

I bought mine with 68k on the clock and it’s now done 125k.

It’s cost me £67 in repairs over that time. I would get a new mechanic as yours does not sound up to much.

Yeah it threw me a bit, it’s like I’ve told you I’ve put a deposit on it and stuff, not really what I expecting to berate me

Look into my eyes, look into the eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around the eyes, look into my eyes... (clicks) you're under, [get XC asap], 3, 2, 1, you're back in the Showroom.

Thanks for the video, already put a smile on my face

To be honest it will mostly be used for small school run trips most days. But twice a year will go to Europe and usually a 2000 mile round trip and it just makes all the difference.

Lovely car
