Default why the clunk

2004 XC70 D5 awd 227k

Hello to all
its been a long time, hope all are well

Why after lower control harms replaced, drive shafts track control ends, pig bolts, upper and lower engine mounts replaced.
I still have a major clunk going to R?? not much going from P to D

I really give up!!!

WHat about the lower gearbox torque mount if you have one on yours?
do you mean ya did the single drive shaft bolt in the hubs? if not, check those for tightness
Does it need a software update? about £70 for Volvo to check, prob more to do an update if needed, not sure on that...

The other thing to consider is worn drive shaft splines. When you go from drive to reverse in an automatic after stopping you will get a clunk and a jolt as the slack is taken up when the shaft turn in the opposite direction. The same thing will also occur when going from stop to reverse having previously been in a forward gear.

You'll then get the same effect when you go back into forward gear having stopped after reversing.

Forgot to ask him, does it happen from cold or only once driven for a time (eg 20 mins) If its from cold, then could prob rule out the gearbox else there would be other gear related issues...

I too had a mystery clunk, often on odd road camber / brow of hill when acellerating or similar, i think it was the strut upper spring mount, where the round bit fits into the bearing on the plate with 3 studs that goes to the body.. the rubber piece had worn and this movement of the strut i think was causing the clunk, only happened rarely , and probably when less weight on the particular strut.. it might be that as it could be the only piece you havent replaced 😁 maybe?

Hello to all

Lower gearbox mount is new less than 6 months. The ping bolts 37 ft-lb + 90 degrees.
The last software was in 2007 and she has it. I checked at local Volvo dealer.

The front drive shafts were replaced maybe 3 months ago

It happens on cold to...but maybe it gets worst with temperature
But sometimes the clunk is so low it has times....

maybe this could help diagnose....
i really don't know what else

it looks like you hae some wear in the gearbox or wear on the output bearings

The first video shows play in the CV axles.
Were they new or rebuilds? Parts are said to be screened by rebuilders and many worn parts are said to pass by those who claim to know.
