Gremlins at work
Oh no ! the dreaded amp light has started glowing . Actualy more than glowing it was burning bright as a drove into work today. Much brighter than any other bulb in the car has ever managed!
Last night it glowed and i had windscreen wipers, today it shines fiercely and i have no wipers and no indicators, headlights are fine though. I've checked the fuses and they are intact, i've cleaned the terminals in the fuse box. Charged the battery. Would this be a control box problem maybe? I'm puzzled by the lack of wipers if its a charging problem. I've also not got power to the stereo even though the power feed for the coil ( aftermarket blue highpower) comes of a spare terminal on fuse box. Engine starts fine but no ignition lights. Time for that new alternator perhaps.... |

Check other electricals, e.g. horn and reversing lights (if you have them). I'm no expert but this sounds like a breakdown with one of the circuits. This happened to me and it was one of the fuses, I think the third one down. But I could be way out.

I'd be round the system checking earth connections too. You know how electricity finds odd ways back round the system if there's a dirty earth anywhere.

Well fuse number three was ok, as were all the others so i guess it must be the wiring on the way to the fusebox. I thought i might take of the box and get it nice and shiney and replace some of the spade connectors because they all look a bit passed their best.
If it was a bad earth anywhere else would it have the same effect? ie if it was at the indicator lamp end it would just make the other lights stay on, am i right in thinking that? and not effect other systems. I'll know more when the fuse box is on the bench in front of me but its a bit grim outside so thats a job for tomorrow. Oh the horn still works so at least i can still annoy people in traffic even if i can't let them know which way i'm turning ! Thanks for the pointers guys, as usual this site comes to the rescue. |
