Default 850 Metal fatigue (drivers door)

Hi everyone
So, trying to do a few simple jobs on my car (855) recently .. Not that handy with spanners, but thought I would attempt the check strap replacement on my drivers door as it had recently started to 'knock'.
Typically, it wasn't straightforward! There seems to be 2x cracks on the hinge side of the inner door, exactly where the two 10mm nuts/bolts on the check strap locate. There doesn't seem to be any problems where the single torx bolt fixes the strap to the a-pillar, but the cracks in the door are big enough to mean there is no longer a decent base for the bolts to go through and anchor.
I really need to find a fix that's economical, but decent and robust at the same time. Does anyone know a decent welder in Kent that might be familiar with this kind of problem?

Many thanks

If you do a web search with "How ro repair a Volvo 850 door stay" there is a very descriptive and illustrated article on this which may help?

Cheers - Yeah, I noticed that whilst searching the web too. Unfortunately, a combination of images I cannot see, continuous pop ups on the original webpage and the mention of needing to remove the door (!) put me off following up any further with this method. I was really wanting to see if anyone else had managed to effect a different, equally successful repair
