Default What Fuel Economy Can I Expect From 2.0T or T5 Please?

Hi,

My wife is considering an S60. Any ideas on what economy we may achieve please? Unfortunately we can't afford a D5. I would also appreciate any pointers regarding what I should look for or what I should avoid.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Default RE: What Fuel Economy Can I Expect From 2.0T or T5 Please?

Hi Adam,
I've had 2 S60s (both 2.0T)and my daily drive is a mixture of A, B and M roads. I tend to stick around the legal speed limit and have found that on 95 RON (normal unleaded) my cars returned on average 27mpg and 97 RON (BP ultimate, Esso Super) gave around 28. I've just stated using Optimax (98?) which is the recommended RON for the S60 and I've been getting 29...

Can't really comment on T5 as I've never driven one - but if you can afford a T5 you can afford a D5(£26300 vs £23000 for SE spec))

OFFICIAL figures for manual box are as follows: (Urban/Extra Urban/Combined)- mpg

2.0T 22.1/39.8/30.7
2.5T 21.9/40.4/30.7
D5 32.5/54.3/43.5
T5 22.2/38.7/30.4
(note 04 models - don't have 05 specs to hand but unlikely to be much different)
What sort of mileage do you do? If you do more than about 15-20k a year I'd suggest considering the Diesel over the 2.0T - D5 performance is not much less than the 2.0T and the torque is greater (340Nm vs 240)

As to what to look for - if looking on the used market, possibly suspension problems on high-milers & some of the earlier cars (Y-51), and wear on steering bump stops (worst failing of the 60 is the turning circle meaning you're often on full lock). Also watch out for door buttons popping up moments after you lock the car (dodgy lock mechanism)
Hope this is of some help
Cheers,
Graeme

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I'm going to put an advert in the cars wanted forum.
