Does Adaptive Cruise/ Queue Assist get Confused?
Are there situations where the clever new active control/ queue assist does something suprising? I can think of an example but there may be other situations that I have not considered. I have seen lots of praise for the new system but it has mainly been for motorway/ dual carriageways which we don't have many of although we do have long empty flowing roads that are ideal for cruise although as given in the example below we do also have sharp corners!
Let me give an example of where Adaptive Cruise might get confused. Suppose that I am driving, following another car, with adaptive cruise set. The car in front is approaching a sharp left handed corner. He slows down & my active cruise slows me down. At some point he goes round the corner & out of the view of my radar. (What happens???). Even if my car accelerates I decide that I am happy to let it do so but as I approach the corner a vehicle also reaches the corner coming the other way. We are in our own lanes so it is not dangerous but at some point he is directly ahead oh me and not necessarily very far away (what happens?? emergency stop??) I know that the example is contrived & is a situation that I would try & avoid but it does illustrate why I am asking this question & what I mean. |

Yes, that can happen, but I never have it set substantially higher than what I am following if there is a chance this can happen. I often follow in a line of traffic, so set the cruise to be, say 55mph if we are doing around 45-50 so you are never going to be under huge acceleration and caught out.
As with all these systems, they are not flawless, if they were, the driver would not be needed.
