warm up regulator
Hi Guys,, I have spoken to Classicswede About taking my 89gl estate to him for tuning etc and just left a message on his phone, but in the meantime I am wondering which is the best place to buy a warm up regulator kit from,? the prices on ebay are quite varied...Unless Classic has them..!!!

What are you aiming to fix / improve on the wur?
Just asking as it doesn't generally need rebuilt unless actually leaking, there are no wear items as such. A strip and clean is usually all that's necessary. |

Regulator
Hi Juular, I am trying to resolve the start up idle issue as, it is very Shakey on start up and does improve when warm but still Shakey, And being 34 years old and in very good condition with 83k, I want to improve it as it is also running rich....I have used new injectors, plugs, oil, Air filter, whilst working my way along.... I will be checking the start up injector shortly...But in the meantime i would like someone to tune it up..!!! to which i am waiting for a call from classicswede so i can take to him for tuning,{ he is 169 miles away }. when i got the estate i new it had a headgasket done back in 2020 to which they did all gaskets etc... And there is a note at bottom of invoice saying,:lease note the engine runs poorly when cold as the sensor that controls the cold start is faulty but only available from volvo and volvo have closed. This is from Braeside motors Patcham Brighton... obviously there local volvo closed and they couldnt be arsed to find another one ,,,lol. To sum up,, all i am after is an engine that runs well and doesnt rock a lot,,,{smooth would be great } just thought i would post photo of gasket Receipt..volvo.jpg

The correct name for the unit is the Control Pressure regulator, you can check it with the 3-way test pressure gauge , watch the pressure rise from cold from about 1.5 bar to 3.5 bar when hot ( Long time since I last did this if those figures are slightly out)

So, a shaky start could well be the CO adjustment next to the airflow sock needing tweaked, as mentioned.
The WUR/CPR can also cause issues, but it can only really be tuned if you have the pressure gauge. There is one check you can do that doesn't require the gauge, and that is to take the larger banjo fitting off the top of the unit and check the mesh filter under it. Over the years these fill up with gunk which eventually restricts the flow and causes the system to run lean when cold. You should be able to clean it up with a small flat blade screwdriver and some carb cleaner. If you take off the whole regulator unit and dismantle it, you can poke the mesh filter out from the inside using a needle and clean it properly. You do have to be careful though, the presence of the mesh filter is absolutely essential so don't lose or damage it. They are extremely difficult to find replacements for. |
