Default Please I need help my car is whistleing!

I have the dreaded whistle/scream from my engine, I know what it is but I have searched all over the internet for a replacement oil separator and unless I want to go to the USA or Canada there is no such thing as the one fitted to my car!
My car is an S40 1.6 and the first date of registration is Jan 2004 so I'm assuming it is a 2003 mk I phase 2 model.

The part number on the offending article is 8642185 and all the parts I have found for my make and year are nothing like the one I now have in my hands!

Have Volvo discontinued this part in the UK/Europe if so were can I gat one? Or a replacement part from?

I really am at the end of my tether with this on, I have read all the post's on replacing it and I have made pot's myself but to date I have not had a single reply? Is it because no one has the answer?

Three things spring to mind.

You seem unsure which car you have, whether it is the last of the classic S40's or one of the first second generation S40 - a photo would help. Also the engine code would be useful. Have you actually been to Volvo and asked if the part is available and how much, if it is. Not all the stealers are ogres, some, infact quite a few are helpful.

If you could answer these questions you may get a positive response.

I know I can get it from the USA but that takes weeks and the postage is almost as much as the part!

My local Volvo dealer is miles away but I did contact them and they still have not got back to me.

So.... Still looking

not too sure how to find the engine code, but you are right it is confusing with my car being on the cusp.

Hey
you didn't check the website for postage price
the postage doesn't take weeks
your car whatever you have is not on the cusp of anything
the only thing confusing is you

Well thank you "happy driver" the price from the US is still far more than I would expect to pay in the UK.
I'm so sorry you find me confusing

Caustic soda clears them out rather well. And much cheaper than a new part. For basically a lump of ABS plastic they're quite expensive, considering similar lumps of plastic are given away free with certain other consumable commodities.

It's not a fairly priced item. The object is uncomplicated and ****-easy to manufacture, and doesn't even weigh very much. It should be pennies.
