Default 200,000 miles

Finally clocked it this morning. Four years later than scheduled due to Covid and the purchase of a Discovery 3 which shared the work.
Wife’s car and we are the second owner, bought from dealer after first lease owner.
Had a fuel pump and some wiring this year but aside from regular servicing it’s been the most reliable car we ever ran. Nine nearly ten years owned now.
Can’t find much to replace it with we can afford that would be even close to the quality the XC70 has been.
We said when we bought it we would run it to 200,000 miles then decide what to do……….

You just want someone to say, “ keep it “, I’ll oblige! That’s it ! Job done!

P.S. Well done!

That’s great to hear! I would love it if mine were to do the same. Mine is at 125,000 with v.good reliability. Would be interesting to know what maintenance etc you did to it?

Any special tips etc?

It’s maintenance has been regular servicing to 150,000 miles and since then it’s oil change every ten thousand miles and air filter changes every year. MOT it and fix it when it breaks. Most miles are motorway so the brakes don’t take much stick.
The only way to keep it would be relegate it to second car but it’s my wife’s car and doesn’t really fit as second car. Ten years old now so it’s due for replacement. Tried to sell it last year alongside my Discovery with keep whichever didn’t sell first. The Discovery had 210,000 miles on the clock when it went. Similar maintenance schedule.

That's the only thing I don't get.
Why does it have to be a second car? I still use my XC70 as a primary car. I'm a bit ahead of you, with 372454 km on the clock.
Why does it not work as a secondary car? Wife and me have one car each. Both are XC70. Her's is "new" at 175398 km.

Don't know about the UK, but in Sweden, parts for the Discovery are very expensive compared to the same for Volvo.

Having run a couple of labdrovers, I find in the U.K. pattern parts become pretty cheap once they get to 10 years of age for land rovers.

Yes but a great deal of those parts have BRITPART written on them, which I believe is Chinese for RUBBISH!

Keep the Volvo!👍🥰🤨

I'd be interested as to what you thought of the D3... I've been tempted by them for a number of years now, and nearly got one but not yet. But now I know a few people who have them or have had them (as a work and tow car which is what it would be for me) they all love the ride and usability but all have suffered significant reliability issues.

I've always held a view that you can tell how reliable car parts are by their second hand value on e-bay - the higher the demand the higher the prices. Volvo 2.4L D5 engine for a 2005 XC90 - £400-£800. Jaguar/Land Rover 2.7 TDV6 engine for a Disco - x3 that price...
