Default Steering lock mechanism

So the steering lock issue reared it's ugly head yesterday. The car wouldn't start and the usual 'turn steering wheel and try to start' message came up.

I had two options, go with an electronic emulator for £50 that simulates the steering lock and tells the ECU it's there so it works (removing the plug from the original and plugging it into the little emulator box) or go with a new mechanism.

Phoned volvo and quoted £370 including the software patch needed to marry it up to the car. I did ask if they would reduce the cost seeing as it's a known issue but they said they can't. I did ask if that was can't or won't. But as it's an 'old' car......they wouldn't.

I went with the £370. Yes I know, that's mad but sometimes you just got to bite the bullet and go with what is the safer option despite the cost.

In case anyone has this issue, the emulator box can be bought here Link

Not affiliated with them, just in case anyone does a search on here seeing as it's a common problem.
