Keep the badge on there John. One day you wont be able to find a perfect badge, let alone a perfect car!

The "2.5" looks a bit lonely underneath the "850"........the GLT badge and it's positioning looks superb.
Liking your new reg. too.

That's the GLT badge a permanent fixture now. I picked up the proper adhesive tape from my mate who has a coachworks/paintshop this morning.

You don't get a second chance with this stuff, it sticks like sh*t on your shoe

I decided I wanted to change my wheel centre caps back to the original black ones. My black caps are original to the car and dated Sept 1996, they look fine from a distance, they even look presentable standing next to the car, but close inspection shows each one has some corrosion so I looked at buying new caps from Volvo. At £15 per wheel that's the price of half a tank of petrol so I took the plunge and bought some from eBay. They arrived and on inspection the quality isn't in them, but at £10 for all 4 it's a ⅙ of the cost from Volvo. The black paint on them rubs off onto a cloth when you polish it so they have no protection and I don't think they would last long with Scotland's inclement weather. When I was in at my mates paint/body shop yesterday I asked him about lacquering them and he suggested giving them a light dusting of plastic primer first to give the lacquer something to adhere to and I did that today. Just waiting on the lacquer hardening and I'll put them on the car.

I know for certain they will never last the 26 years the original ones have, how long until they fail I don't know, but for a tenner it has to be worth experimenting with.

The look pretty good.

Will your 850 see any inclement weather ?!

I don't normally take it out if it's raining, but it does sometimes get caught out, like a few weeks ago when it was a monsoon coming back from Perth and I had to leave it outside overnight because it was so wet.

I fitted the caps tonight and before the car even moves I'm not confident they will last very long. They didn't 'clip' into the wheel with a reassuring click and I have a feeling they will end up in a ditch tomorrow before I arrive at a show I'm attending, so I've got the original set in the glovebox, just in case...

You are a man after my own heart. I always have to have the Volvo logo lined up square with the valve.

A rose between the thorns...

It only took 5 weeks for my headlamp retaining clip to arrive so I went in the 850 to collect it from my local Volvo dealer. This is probably the last time the 850 will be out until next year as the Scottish winter weather is not a good environment for old (or new) cars

@ 4x4
A tip for the wheel centre caps is to wrap electrical tape around them.
They fit nice and snug in the wheel centre bore that way and you shouldn’t lose one.
