I've got a MY22 XC60 which I took delivery of in September. Back then I was getting 20/21 miles on a full charge but that has dropped off a cliff now the weather has gone cold. Especially if you use the aux heater.
I now get less than 17, it shows this on display at the start of a journey but if you have the heater on it rapidly drops off to around 11-14.
I did an experiment to see how much power the aux heater used by switching on preconditioning for 30 mins and it used over 25% for the battery, so if you drive for 30 mins 25% of the range will be going to heat the car.
You can turn the aux heater off in the climate settings and I also believe in pure mode it is disabled as well. Just have to wait until the weather gets warmer to see if it improves!

The other thing I have noticed is that during the cold weather the car doesn't change at the full rate either. I have a wall charger which in theory should charge the car at around 3.7kw. It does do this on occasion but I have noticed that during the colder weather the car only seems to want to draw 1.7kw. Has anyone else experienced this?

It’s -1 here now and car is currently charging at 3.7Kw, I did set the scheduled boost on my charger to charge over night yesterday and it only charged at 1.7, but that’s possibly on purpose as I gave it a ‘be ready by’ target.

I like the sound of this - our XC90 T8 arrives at the Stealership this week with the 18Kwh battery, so being able to 25 miles will mean all our casual drives are electric

I would expect you should be able to get a real world of 35 miles from an 18kw, in the right conditions

Though if you lose 20% due to using the preheat, that’s going to drop in the winter.

I do like the fuel heater, it’s a real luxury to get into a toasty warm car anywhere in winter (and still keep all your electrons for driving!)

I’d be surprised if you get that much. More of the battery is in reserve on the newer batteries due to the bigger electric engine. With my 11KWh battery my commute is around 12 miles and I have about a quarter left of battery when I get to my destination so say 16 miles max factoring in that other quarter left. That’s with pre climate at home plugged into the wall and just having heated seat and climate on, nothing else. You’ll be lucky to get 25 miles with the new batteries…

See my VOC app screen grab a few posts up. I get a real world range of 22-26 twice a day with the 11.6kW battery, even with the bigger motor and maybe larger reserve the 18kW battery has to increase the miles to 30+ or they wouldn’t have bothered! The electric preheat will kill miles by the sound of it

That’s nice for you but this is a MY22 I’m talking about here. So either they have purposely throttled the range to upsell the bigger battery or there is a serious issue with the software that is throttling the range. I believe my pre heater is electric but as I said this makes no difference to the range as I’m plugged into the wall and I have a full battery when I get in the car after pre heat. So my comment still stands… you’ll be lucky to get 25 miles on a MY22 with the bigger battery. I don’t think it’s about them not bothering, they need to remain competitive in the industry. The likes of Audi and BMW are passing Volvo in terms of range…

I’ve had a MY22 T6 for a couple of weeks now and can usually get 24 miles out of the battery. This is including a timed preheat while plugged into the wall charger and using Pure mode. 10 of those miles I have +3 people in the car and the rest it’s just me. No roof rack. Standard 19 inch wheels and tyres. It’s a not particularly flat route with about 3 miles on dual carriageway and the rest on urban routes with 20-40 mph limits. Temps have been hovering between -1 and 7 degrees C. The manual states that the car defaults to 21 miles range estimate in Hybrid and 24 miles range estimate in Pure but that mileage will vary based on conditions and driving. I contemplated waiting for the larger battery but a) the smaller one seemed suited to my particular needs b) I’d have lost out on the great deal I got, which likely was something to do with the fact that Volvo knew the update was coming and wanted to shift the recharges before people got wind, and c) I’d have waited several more months to get the car.

Hi all. I’m very interested in this thread. I took delivery of a MY22 XC60 T8 in August. From the start, I typically got 21 miles from the battery, in hybrid mode. Shortly after the 1.7 software upgrade, that dropped off a cliff - down to between 8 and 10 miles. My dealer has had it in twice. Most recently, overnight. He told me he managed 20+ miles off a full charge. Yet when I got it back, there was no change. He will get it back again in the New Year. I started off very pleased with the car. Now, not so much.
