As far as I know the shocks are standard. I've not crawled around underneath to check this, but I asume they are standard.

If you car has roof bars it could have self leveling rear suspension as part of the estate car pack.

Yes I do have roof bars, so maybe I do have self leveling.

I have noticed that when I park on my driveway, which is quite steep meaning the car is facing uphill, the rear nearside sits lower than the offside. When parked on the level both sides are even. Maybe something is not quite right here.

a self leveling shock looks like this....

note the gaitor....normal shocks dont have this....
if one side is lower than the other, chances are as i mentioned before you have a weak spring..., or worse still, broken....
cheers

Hi,

You can also have a failed shock - look for signs of oil...
Nivo's have a 100k mile service life or 10 of use.
Or thereabouts... If your shocks are over 10 years old or have 120000+ miles then you'll want to start thinking of changing them..

as a matter of interest the standard rear shock has no load bearing on it, the spring carries all the weight.....
this is proven by the ability to change the strutt top without jacking or supporting the rear end....and having a 18 stone bloke in the boot while changing it lol......
however others may want to consider a more safety first method....
cheers

Maybe I'm one of the lucky buggers because mine unlocks the tailgate, no probs!

As for the issues surrounding the ride, the roads near me are attrocious and I can honestly say that I'm happy with the ride on my T5. It's firm but I can live with it. When I had a Saab 9-3, the ride on that was teeth crunching to say the least due to it riding on 18" and being lowered.

The one I had worked, but of course only if you have locked the doors using the internal locking first. I never did see the point in it.
