Wow,

That's a good one, there should be no reason at all why the brake lights have come on.

Has you car got cruise control, and have you had someone looking at it, or the wiring around it.

It may be possible that they have put the clutch switch and brake switch the wrong way round.

Eddie.

would a clutch have a switch? as never heard that before... but brake light still comes on when we press the brake to but it seems really weird why pressing me clutch down would make the brake lights come on...
this has got me this one... only noticed it yesterday in the dark as i was towing a caravan and obivously it reflected so checked it today in the light and it was still doing it i thought maybe it was something to do with me towing last night but hey ho, i'm sure i'll sort it.

Sounds like a faulty earth to me, the metal pedal will be earthed in the same loop as the brake pedal. I had a megane that it years ago

If the switch won't lock back in to the bracket you will need a new switch, the plastic body of the switch goes brittle over time and once a portion breaks off it wont stay attached to the bracket in the correct position - Mike

When it happened on my citreon, it was a worn bush on the Brk / Clt / Acc pedal mechanism, a relatively easy job to to.
To check just check with your hand the amount of movement at the pedals.

Hope that helps slightly,

Joe.

My brake light switch is ultra sensitive. How easy was it to get to the switch.

Default Same Problem

This same problem has just started on my car (Volvo s60 T5 se 2002) the brake lights coming on when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. The fault code I got off the car was P0805 = clutch position sensor, reset this and still the same. Could anyone recommend a good garage in or near Wakefield Yorkshire that could help me out as getting up behind the pedals is out of my capability. Please don’t suggest Harratts the Volvo dealers in Wakefield because when charging they just think of a number and stick as many nought’s on as they can.
