Default D5 2003 core plug

Hopefully a simple question!! What way round does the core plug go in. The one that sits in between engine and transmission. I have my engine out and after reading the core plugs can fail I bought the new improved version but I took my old one out without noticing which way it was!!! Cup bit out or cup bit in?!!!
Many thanks

Core plugs normally have the cupped side facing outwards, creating the appearance of a small crater on the block.
