O8 D5power loss
Hi can anyone help please.
I have an08 d5 185. The soot filter full came up yesterday. The manual says it does this when it is 80% full. After agood run the message has gone but engine system service urgent has come up. The power is down and there is a loud whooshing sound like air escaping every time it is revved. ihave ordered a code reader so i should know more when i get it but in the mean time does anyone recognise the problem? |

S80 Problems
Hi, 1st off I am not a mechanic. I am a Chauffeur who uses the S80 on a 07 plate who top date has driven 166000 miles.
I have been having a similar problem for the last few months. "Soot filter full"- followed by the "engine service required" On top of this I have been using approx 4 LITRES of oil EVERY MONTH. The other symptom is the "WHUMP WHUMP " that sounds like its coming from under the air box on the nearside front of the engine. And loss of power, ( sometimes it pulls away like an old bus) Been into Volvo,Slough who charged me over £300 to tell me "Well there's something wrong"- "But were not sure what, and we do not have the time or the facilities to go into it" !! Looked on Volvo Forum and found somebody with a similar problem & who also had the same problem with Volvo, Slough. They, as I took it into Phil Whittaker at Farnham Common. ( "His " was diagnosed as a stuck EGR Valve"- the noise under the air box being caused by exhaust gasses), sadly this is not the same case as mine! Phil Whittaker diagnosed a Mechanic engine problem and said it would be far to expensive to investigate and I should look for a replacement Engine!! Cant find one anyway, but gather it would be around 4 grand + fitting At present it is in a garage in Slough where at present they have found 2 leaking injectors and have taken both the top and bottom ends off the engine to check the head, valves & Pistons. I would definitely get a diagnostic done and ask them specifically to check the EGR valve and take it from there. Hope this helps and it's not so drastic as mine. Brad |

Hi bradley, Thanks for your comments. I put the car in to My local volvo agent. They did a regeneration of the soot filter. but also found a split in the charge air pipe. performance is now back to normal but also strangely fuel consumption
is much better. Before it went wrong the best i could get was 33 mpg now its38. Best of luck with yours. |

Better fuel economy should result as gases flowing easier etc |
