My point would be if you own the car for say 70k miles you are likely only change the front discs once. Do you want to experiment with cheap brands to see which works best or just pay a little extra for guaranteed results?
Just buy quality aftermarket parts that you know are cheaper and good quality and don't guess anything.

It is illegal to leave a car parked without a parking brake on as both rear wheels are NOT locked they are completely free to rotate in opposite directions. One of them will slip and rotate backwards as the car slides down on an icy, muddy or a leafy wet hill . I've seen It all before.
It would be stupid not to put on your parking brake as well but it would be even stupider to fully depend on an xc90 park brake and not use the park as well.
Nobody's ever died in an xc90 but if they stopped using the park and only park brake you'd have more chance of being killed by one running over the top of you.

I don’t think you can remove the key anyway can you if it’s not in park?

You can’t in my 2012 anyway.

I think your right but if your not locking the car you don't necessarily need your keys out, its when you jump out to open a gate or something.

Why have second, third, fourth or seventh best when you can have the best - money is no object when it comes to new brakes.

Volvo pads are crap! Produce way too much dust on my beautiful wheels.

Going to try Pagid pads to match the discs. Do Volvo discs have a paint covering on the discs like Pagid, so they essentially stay rust free? Bonus with that is you don't need to mess cleaning the discs with brake cleaner when fitting.

My £120 front Apec discs and pads lasted 10 years and 50,000 miles, minimal lip on the discs and 6mm still on the pads. No squeal in all that time, but had to replace the slide pins once. I changed them out for Pagid discs and Volvo pads when replacing the hubs, but didn't need to really.

See post 46 for a picture of a new Volvo disc… they’re painted except for the friction surface, but they’re not coated either, they’re sealed in a bag with a desiccant so. They stay “as new”.

The amount of dust produced and life don’t feature on my priority list really…

I spoke to a volvo specialist who fits pagid brake discs and pads, the only genuine he uses is the shoes.

If that was the case then why buy an xc90 to get the poorest park brake ever made. As I said above non genuine discs and pads has no difference on foot brake efficiency for mot. So why throw away money if no need too? His apec brakes was perfect for 10 years. Too much scare mongering about needing genuine on here.
