Not sure what part you guys mean by the centre console. The flap over the cup holders is push to release. (Forward of the red arrow) The part behind the red arrow is removable by pulling backwards so the centre rear seat can be moved right forward to communicate with a child easier.

Thanks very much for the guide, finally got round to sorting out mine today, the only thing I did differently was I used a 316 stainless rod and used the replacement rod as a drift then just cut it carefully to size whilst in place.

Just done this repair following the guide and it was quite straightforward, however both my bulb holders were broken and would not lock ito place so that i could not replace the numberplate lights and keep them lit, just got a new loom and holders from swansea £10.00 which was cheaper than quoted from a breakers, so all good now and cheap enough
A cheap repair had to happen one day

Lock handle was too far gone, see what I did...
Well I am not too mechanically inclined, but persevered. And other than 1 of the 4 bolts being too rusty to remove properly it wasn't a horrible experience.
Until I got to the last step, knock out the rusty pin - the culprit of our troubles. Alas, my rusty pin was too far gone (See Photo). RATS! All this effort and full stop. So, off to eBay I go. Only to find a sparkly new part for $32 USD (See Photo)! I will finish the job later this week. Not bad for less than $50 and 1.5 hours. This article gave me the confidence to try and fix an annoyance for years - my tail gate latch sticking. Thank you!!!

Sticking rear hatch handle also. Thanks BestGear for your excellent write up.
Pin a little rusty but handle moves OK, seems the spring has failed. To put off the job of taking the handle apart I put a small tubular spring on the cable to push the level away from the cable holder (sorry no photo), also lub'ed the pin. Seems to work ok, the handle is fluid and returning. May buy me some time to get the stainless steel pin and attack it properly.

I set out to do this today..
all trim off etc.. Ive now sussed out though that its not thehandle or cable.. the actuator is goosed. But the tailgate is locked. I can find no way to unlock the tailgate manually. What can I do?? I'm one step away from angle grinding the whole thing out to get to the mechanism to unlock it... surely actuators fail? Help! |

David.
Thank-you for your original post. It was helpful especially the pictures I have an 07 XC90 3.2 AWD and live in Canada so perhaps Volvo has made some changes. Most of what you posted was applicable to my car. There were a couple of minor differences. There were 2 screws under the grab handle, very minor. I needed to remove the wiper motor to access the 2 centre bolts holding the latch assemble. I found that by removing the 4 nuts and dropping the whole latch assemble a couple of inches before disconnecting the cable greatly eased the process (no broken plastic clip!) I also re-connected the cable before reinstalling the nuts. As for replacing the rusty pin, well, mine looks quiet different from your pictures. The ends seem to be a much smaller diameter so I don't think that the pin could be driven out and replaced. So I ordered a new assembly from an on line dealer in Texas for US$90. The local dealer wanted Cdn$ 250. Money and 45 minutes were well spent to have a properly working latch Anyway, thanks again. |

Hi guys.
Please forgive me, I'm a newbie to this forum but I cannot see the photos within the posts. Do I need to become a full member to be able to view these? Craig |
