I'm still not convinced it is the injectors, before the OP disappeared to uni again i was going to suggest adding an egg cup full of synthetic ATF to the tank which would help clean the injectors and revive rubber components in the fuel distributor while lubing the fuel distributor as well. It would also counteract any negative effects from the meths used for removing condensation from the tank. The other thing is, there's a strong chance the car actually just needs to be driven a fair bit. My gut feeling is that the problem is mainly lack of use.
After your suggestion before I tried running ATF through the tank but it didn’t seem to have any long lasting affects. As you say maybe it would have had long lasting effects if the car was actually being driven. My dad said he attempted to move it under its own power before giving it to the garage but it would die as soon as the clutch was released, different to when I was last there because when I was there it would actually move you just had to make sure you kept the revs up to prevent it from dying.

Also, my dad has said that he’s going to call and ask the garage how they’ve come to the conclusion that the injectors are faulty.

I think Dave is right. Your car ( as a famous Hotel owner once said ) needs a damn good thrashing

Wasn't that in the film "Clockwise" with said hotel owner portraying a headmaster obsessed by time and punctuality?

I know the ADO16 Austin/Morris 11/1300 featured in both so maybe my memory is playing tricks.

Also known as an "Italian Decoke" - odd how it would stall as soon as your dad let the clutch up though. Perhaps if he drives a more modern car he isn't being "brutal" enough with the 60 year old technology and heavy clutch of the 740.

Remind me - what condition is the exhaust in? Wondering if perhaps a small animal has crawled up the tailpipe and built a nest causing a back pressure problem or perhaps a baffle has broken and is intermittently blocking the exhaust system.

I don't think the exhaust has ever been changed, my dad was going to ask the garage to try and get it off as it looked pretty fused at every connection but he's already told them that "we're going to scrap it" so he's arranged to have it brought home.

In relation to your question on how they came to the conclusion that the injectors were faulty apparently they took the injectors out and found that fuel was 'leaking/running around rather than through the injectors' which is causing the engine to flood and eventually die.

Does this mean that new seals/O rings are needed?

That set won't fit if your car is K Jet. That is for later cars LH Jetronic

Did you put your VIN into Skandix ?
