Having someone sit in the back is a good idea, as monkeh says. Its hard to pinpoint where noises are coming from in the driver's seat.

Going back to the suspension side of things, maybe its simply interior related. Although, I can't see how interior panels would make a clunking noise. That'd be more of a buzzling plastic vibration. Don't rule out the rear trailing arm bushes. Its a common failure point on Volvo's of this era. As the clonking is coming from the rear, it could well be those bushes.

That's good !!
I am on with shock removal at the moment but 11 years of road crud on the bolts is not helping plus the fact that the eye bolts are around 110 foot pounds tight....which means a lot more force needed to remove them.. I just have to keep working them I guess.

Did you use genuine top mounts or aftermarket stuff ??

Use a wire brush and try to clean that dirt off. Then use some penetrating fluid on the bolts and let it settle in. Don't be shy with the lubrication.

Rear mount looks busted.

Not too bad. The mounts aren’t expensive.

I have a couple of mounts ready to go, plus shocks , but still can't shift the lower eye bolts.

I reckon the bolt has seized in the bush sleeve. The rattle gun moves the bolt but against the rubber bush so just bounces it !
2'6"" breaker bar didn't !!
Mucho lube applied and left ...just have to be Volvoless for now..
