Default Volvo CR-708 radio

Hello, i decided to install door speakers into the empty front doors. Unfortunately there is no audio output from the first speaker installed.

I have checked continuity of the speaker cable harnesses and everything is ok from the external amp to the new speaker via the factory wiring. I’m coming to the conclusion the original radio model can’t output an additional pair even though the wiring is installed by default.

Perhaps six speaker updrade intailed a higher spec radio. Radio museum states 2 x 8w output, i assume this is for the rear speakers and the dash speakers are direct from the radio not going through the external amp.

Have i come to the right conclusion and does anyone know a volvo model that has four outputs. The cassette player is not working anyway.

An update in that i discovered you can wire a two channel amp with four speakers in either series or parallel.

I’ve managed to save the volvo radio by cutting the speaker wires at the amp connector and rewiring the front and rear door speaker on each side in series. Balance can be changed and fade controls the four door speakers as rear and two dash speakers as front.

You can but it's not always advisable. Does it specify on the radio what impedance speakers it should have?

Two 4 Ohm speakers in parallel will give you 2 Ohms, two in series will give you 8 Ohms, if the radio says 4-8 Ohms (upside down horseshoe type symbol) then wire the two speakers per channel in series.
