You need ....

The Westfalia detachable towbar - best place was PF Jones in Manchester, or they also have a site called detachabletowbars.com. Around £175

You then need the Volvo wiring and trailer module. For a caravan I assume 13 pin - so around £100 from Simon at FRF.

For a caravan you will want the SW download which deactivates the car fog lights when towbar wiring in use to stop glare from back of caravan. No idea on price - others have said £50.

Fitting is straighforward. There is a post on here so look for that .

Easiest with two people - makes it much easier to get the bar up into position before someone else pushes bolts through from car. No need for ramps, or to take the bumper off. You don't need any special tools - just some open ended spanners / ratchet socket etc.

I wouldn't bother with the software download as how often do you tow in fog and the simple answer is don't switch your rear fog light on when towing!

i tend to agree with this.i,ve been towing for over thirty years ans never had to use my rear fogs, but ofcourse its all down to personnal choice.

Smile Trailer module

I have just received a detachable towbar and wiring kit from Gavin at evolvostore. I noticed underneath the fusebox on my car that there is a very similar looking black box, could my car have a factory fitted trailer module or is it something else that looks similar, it has a part number on it.

My car is an XC90 D5 2008 Exec, it has never been fitted with a towbar before by the look of it.

Thumbs up detachable towbar

Thanks for your reply, I left it well alone. I was amazed at how easy to fit the towbar and electrics were, thanks for the great advice on this site.
