Transmission fluid change

I have the 185 xc90 with no dipstick. I thought I couldn't do a transmission fluid change as I've no vida/dice. I stuck my delphi machine on today to see if it could do any of it and I think I can.
The car was in the garage running for about a min and temperature of gearbox oil was reading 17 degrees. Does that sound about right?
Does anyone know what temperature the oil is when fully warmed up so I can check if my machine is accurate?
It also does 2 functions. The first is clear adaption memory and second is reset the oil service interval.
Do I need to do both these functions or just the second?
And lastly do you recommend genuine oil only?

Any correct spec fluid will be fine.
JWS3309 or 3324 depending on model year or what is recommended in the owner's manual.

I did mine with no VIDA etc so no temp measure and no resets.
I stuck my multimeter onto the bottom of the bellhousing to measure the casing temperature. I think it got to 47C and didn't go any higher. I just went for it.

I've been trying to price up transmission oil today. What a nightmare. Toyota knows nothing about t-iv and tried to sell me something different. Said they only had 1 litre as toyota don't change it.
My local parts stores came up with everything but I couldn't see no jws 3309.
I can get liqui moly local but I don't know which stuff.
It changed in 2010. My handbook says jws 3309 but their website says jws 3324. There is a difference from something like chassis no 568000 on and mine is after that. The one before it though does list jws3309.

What year is your car? The fluid specs didn’t change in 2010.

Other Volvo models (not the XC90) changed to JWS3324/AW-1 spec transmission fluid around 2011 (prior to 2011, they used JWS3309). The XC90 was the only model that continued using the older JWS3309 up until 2012, but 2012 plate onwards the XC90’s used JWS3324/AW-1 fluid. If your handbook says JWS3309, use that & nothing else. ****Always best to check the handbook to be sure****

Have a look online. A brand called Mannol sell JWS3309 spec fluid, as do Smith & Allen. These brands are highly recommended by people on here, so I wouldn’t hesitate using them. Just make sure its JWS3309! Of course, genuine Volvo fluid is another option & probably available to pick up from your local dealership, but it’ll be more expensive than Mannol or Smith & Allen.

Actually the XC90 does use the AW-1 from 2012 as a that what mine states in the manual and the same if you use the reg number to look it up on line. Mine is a 2012 12 plate.

Correct. I’ve edited my post.

If the poster of this thread has a manual that says the transmission requires JWS3309, then that’s what I’d use. Or, check with the Volvo dealership to be 100% certain. Based on what the original poster said, I think this is a pre-2012 XC90 (no mention of the year of the vehicle in question anywhere in this thread).

The newer spec fluid is more expensive. There’s no point buying it just for the sake of it, especially if its the older/cheaper fluid that’s actually required.

You need JWS3309 spec fluid.

The car is 2010. They have atf1200 which has jws3309 on it but its not the one they recommend by the chassis number.
I think their is only 1 volvo dealer left in Northern Ireland.
Postage to Northern ireland kills the price of most.
