Default 1.6D2 turbo

Hello,
One of the jubilee clips which hold on the Air intake hose at the top of the engine near to the turbo (grey pipe about 3 inches long) came loose yesterday. When I was tightening it I noticed a lot of engine oil in the hose, and some has sprayed out onto the engine.
Is this normal?
Could the turbo be on its way out and is leaking oil into the air intake Hoses?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Roy

There is always some condensed oil in the intake from hot oil/water vapour sucked in via the pcv.
If the overal oil consumption is normal then there is nothing to worry about if the oil consumption is excessive and there is a bit more oil in the intake ... it could be the the turbo bearings...
Installing an oil catchcan can be good to prevent some oil to enter the engine eitherway.

I am assuming that is the Ford/PSA based engine?
If so then after you have checked out 5cillinder advice, give it over regular oil changes. There is a lot out there about the engine, although IME Volvo implementations of these problem engines is pretty good.

Smile banjo filter

On peugots that use the same engine, there is a banjo bolt that feeds the turbo (easy to see and check) inside the banjo is a small mesh filter that can get clogged and starve the turbo of oil, might be worth a check if the same pipework used on volvos..

Thanks guys.
As this is a keeper I decided to bite the bullet and replace the turbo.
As it's a Peugeot engine and they were aware of the hdi horror stories they said to also replace the pipes and drop the sump and clear it all out. The garage said the pipes were pretty clear and the sump didn't have too much gunk in it for a 100k mile car. They did say that there was a lot of play in the turbo shaft which could be letting oil past.
£800 lighter now, but have some peace of mind I suppose.
