Default wanted- steering wheel for amazon

Hi all.

I've got a 1969 2 door 133 saloon, mostly original, unfortunately it has a small age related sports type steering wheel and it's spoiling an otherwise fun car to drive, heavy steering when stationary, moving slowly etc, nothing like the experience i've had with previous amazons i've owned running with normal steering wheels. Has anyone got a decent spare steering wheel they want to part with? I'm in bristol, anything near would be good if not i could arrange carriage?
I suppose in the end i will be looking to improve the steering with some sort of power assist as i'm using it as my everyday car and do quite a lot of around town driving, but think this will have to wait till i have more funds, time and a spare run around!

cheers.

Once you have the correct size wheel, you might find that PAS isn't necessary!

I have a pretty decent spare steering wheel (just a few minor cracks) with its horn ring but it's the earlier type, so probably not correct for your '69. Let me know if it's of interest though

hi paul

Thanks for the reply, i am looking for a later steering wheel if possible, but thanks for the offer.
I didn't mention that i'm running on wider steel rims, pretty much an exact copy of originals that take volvo hub caps etc with 185/70 R15's. Really nice looking and fun to drive on but deffinately making steering heavier at low speeds. So going to start with original steering wheel and see if i need PAS later. Never needed it on previous amazons i've had in the past but then i've never run on anything other than original rims and tyre size before.

Will bare your offer in mind and see if any one else has a later one for now.

Thanks again. Finn

Default steering wheel

I have a late type steering wheel if you are still looking for one, good but not excellant condition.P.m me or phone 07941 342185.Incidentally,some time spent removing all stering joints, flipping back the rubber boot, getting some oil in there, working it around, and refitting can help lighten your steering quite a bit.it can also show if either top and bottom ball joints are tight and also if idler and box are o.k.I did all that when i rebuilt a 1800es for tony B when i worked for him in london, and that gave lovely ,fluid, light steering.Regards Dave
