Default Aircon Intermittently Working

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can help? My s60 D5 2005, appears to have intermittent aircon. It will blow lovely and cold, then after ten minutes or so start to blow warm. If you turn it off for ten-twenty minutes and turn it back on, it’s lovely and cold again.

Any ideas would be appreciated, the pollen filter was changed last year and it was regassed recently as I thought that might of been the problem.

Car has done 225k miles.

Thanks

Smile thermistor ?

Tis certainly the weather for testing if the aircon works 😎

I wonder if something on the cabin temp sensor is intermittent?, there is a thermistor you can see thru the 3 small slots on the climate control panel, i would see if you can read a resistance across it, could be some sort of thermal failure thats causing it to go open circuit and then the panel thinks you need heat not cooling ?,, i recall a thread on said thermistor somewhere on here...quite easy to remove the unit, but discon the battery before unplugging it as i recall it sets the airbag warning (requiring dealer visit or vida to clear it) if you dont.. ill post some pics of the innards if any use to you..

Could be a few things;

- Too much refrigerant
- Not enough refrigerant
- Failing expansion valve
- Clutch gap on the a/c compressor (can be re-shimmed).
