I also moved from a 2002 v40 1.9d to a 2008
V50 2.0d.

The v40 was indeed more simple and therefore more trusty.
I had these car for 5 years and drive it from 125k KM to 250k KM without big problems. It was chipped to 130hp and i always drive more sporty.
Things i need to replace in this time :

- clutch + flywheel
- drive shaft
- small things

Now i have a 2008 v50 bougt on 145k KM.
The firsts things i need to do to make it a good car was kickout the entire dpf system. It was just so a piece off **** and always with problems on diffent parts.
Now thats done its a verry nice car to drive. Its also chipped and the power is very nice.

Other parts i need to recplace :
- alternator
- exaust pipe (rust)
- cardan rubber hose
- 1 of the 2 horns (yes it can be broken ..)

The biggest disapointment was the basic stereo.
I needed to replace al the speakers, add extra amplifier and now i'm happy. But it was realy a shame wat the put in there...

Oh just another piece of info....
These cars have to have a battery that is 100% as all sorts of errors start showing up.
I had break downs of all sorts before renewing the starter motor and then the battery.
If the car is left for any time and the battery has dropped a little I get messages like "abs/traction control fault etc...
These are much more complex vehicles and rely on electronics a lot more.
Also and very annoying is the cars stereo (which is OK as is) is almost impossible to change and most have no USB or Aux inputs and can only be changed by ausing Blue Powers stereo.

EGR should cost less than 200E...But If it's the injection system you would probably go to second hand parts, because the injection pump is almost 1500 euro(VOLVO) ,while the injectors could get to 400euro(a piece)...

Good luck with the car and with VIDA...You gonna need it if you say you are no good with computers...

Hi guys, Just a update, got the car back to London and it took about 20 mins to find the problem, I think it was my lucky day, not only has the car has not got DPF the problem was indeed on one of the injectors it was the o ring on one of the leak off pipes, leaking diesel.

So £14 lighter we'll £17 inc the EGR blanking plate.. hopefully have a great car for the future..

Can the dual mass flywheel be changed for a more traditional setup?

In spite of all potential issues mainly DPF related, thinking about removing it altogether.
how the ride so far ? Any downsides or any hiccups to date ?
