Default Cost of changing the automatic gearbox oil?

I've been thinking of changing the oil on my XC70 as a preventative maintenance measure as I expect to keep the car for a good while.
I bought the car with 53k on the clock and it now has 88k.
My gearbox works fine and I'm not aware of any problems.
Unfortunately, unlike older Volvo autos you can't check the state of the oil as there's no dipstick.
The mechanic at the Volvo dealer said if the gearbox is ok, then leave it. But there are many stories of the gearbox oil being supposedly sealed for life, but not working out this way!
So, I was wondering what the cost would be to change the oil and whether a dealer does a drain and refill or a full flush?

Its a lot cheaper than repairing the gearbox.

you could do a simple diy - drain out a few times, measure, refill
continue with drain-measure-refill till youve used up 2 gallons or fluid coming out is clean

drain with engine running

Given you have no dipstick you will have the six speed box? If so DO NOT DRAIN WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING! Follow this guide on your model of car
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=160569 I would do 4 oil changes about 1000 miles apart.
You need to check your type of oil with your dealer there is a bit of confusion about volvO changing it from about 2012.
See this thread. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=243900
If it is JWS3309 you need you can get if delivered from a dealer on eBay in Germany for about £45 for 20ltrs. Just search for on eBay uk and it should come up.

Yes, 6 speed gearbox and mine's an 08 plate.
I'm afraid I'm not mechanically minded, hence the question regarding cost and what method used.
I've also read reports online that flushing can cause damage to the box, but don't know if there's any truth to that?

Around 14 litres for a full flush and change on 6 speed auto boxes,

Fairly simple task really and takes about an hour to do once you have finished waiting for oil to warm to 50'C to check level
