Default Replacing Throttle Cable Ph2 850

Replacing Throttle Cable Volvo 850 (2.5 N/A in my case).

A mobile mechanic recently replaced my CV boots for me. After taking my car for a test drive he diagnosed that the throttle was 'heavy' & the cause would most likely be that the cable was sticking inside the outer sheath. I had not even noticed, probably as it has been a gradual process of it getting heavy.
I ordered a new one (Original Volvo part) from PFV for £32 and replaced it today. The difference is truly amazing, well worth it! Not difficult, even by my standards! Took some pics along the way too.

1) Remove the plastic cover on the throttle body. T25 Torx screw.

2) Release the inner cable from the throttle body pulley.

3) Release the clip (just pulls out) that holds the outer cable, then release the outer cable.

4) I then unclipped the old cable from the clips along the bulkhead & fitted the new cable, just so I knew it was correctly placed.

5) Now remove the trim & soundproofing under the steering wheel. 3 x T25 Torx screws.

6) Look right up into the footwell, you will see a split clip through which the 'ball' on the end of the throttle cable fits. Release the cable from the clip. This is about the most fiddly bit of the job, but by no means difficult.

7) I have found recently that my throttle pedal 'creaked' every now and then. So I cleaned it up & gave it a bit of WD40, while I was 'in there'.

8) You can now go back to the engine bay & pull the grommet in the bulkhead & finally remove the old cable completely. Just gently pull the inner cable through the bulkhead.

(This pic is actually the new one ready to go in, as I forgot to take a pic here)

9) You can now feed the inner cable of the 'new' through the bulkhead into the cabin. Then go into the cabin & feed the wire through the eye in the pedal & refit the split clip.

10) Now push the grommet into the bulkhead, I smeared mine with Vaseline & it popped back into place a treat.

11) Now fit the inner cable back onto the throttle body pulley, then refit the outer cable & push the clip back into place & finally refit the cover.

12) I started mine up at this point, & everything was fine, you may need to adjust the tension though.
13) Go for a test drive & be amazed at how smooth & light the throttle now feels.

Hope this is of use & if I have missed anything, please feel free to add to it.
Thanks.
