Heavy load. Shift down
Hi all. Just towed caravan to Exeter en route to Newquay and this message appeared. Comes on between 50 and 60 on all motorway except downhill. Revs at 2000rpm which seems comfortable to me. If I hear down, after a few miles the temp goes up. Mind you, it is 32 degrees outside.
Any info appreciated Oh, it’s a 2014 xc60 2.4 awd start stop Last edited by Sheded; Jul 2nd, 2018 at 16:37. Reason: Added details |

If your fuel consumption is very heavy that might be a clue as to unusual wind resistance perhaps , what's it like at 50 mph constant ?

The caravan is 1400kg. No brakes binding or wind. Fuel consumption was excellent with computer stating 31mpg over 250 miles.
Tyre pressure 39 on all wheels. Really smooth at 50mph but heavy load shift down message comes on. Just on borderline between 4th/5th at 50mph. Last edited by Sheded; Jul 3rd, 2018 at 08:26. |

It might be a factor of torque demand - perhaps the engine is under less load at a lower torque but higher engine revs?

Well I guess I am learning to tow with a manual box. The car does 55 in 4th gear at 2500 rpm, and really seams quite comfortable. It does seem to be over revving to me, but is is pulling a tonne and a half. No warnings or overheating. We shall see what the journey home is like....
