Default 850 heated windscreen anyone?

Having watched the Alfa 105 episode of 'Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars' last night, I made a note of the company making heated front windscreens for cars that didn't come with them originally (https://www.heatedwindscreen.com).

I contacted them this morning. and they've said that they can do a heated front screen for a Volvo 850 for £245 + VAT. Its just the screen though - you'd need to get a local windscreen specialist to fit it, and then you'd need to wire it up. They do provide wiring instructions however, and it looks very straightforward.

The downside is that they need a minimum of 5 orders before they can make them. Is anyone else genuinely interested? If so please add your name to the list. Once we have at least five people who are genuinely interested, we'll each need to drop them a line to order one, and then they'll start production.

I'll start the list -

That's a bargain but not necessary for an 850 which soon clears the frost ...Is the screen up to volvo standards I wonder regarding safety?

LOL, yes its to British Standards, all road legal - they make them for motorsport mainly but also cater for the classic car market.

Having had them on my Landrover Discoveries, I miss the ability to clear the screen of ice in 2-3 minutes. OK we don't get that much snow & ice these days, but it clears screen mist just as fast - quicker than the fan.

Must admit I thought people would be delighted at this, especially at this price, but it looks like I'm going to struggle to get 5 orders

My first experience of embedded heated wires was in the rear window of the Silver Cloud, the wires were very, very, fine and even when I knew where they were it was only possible to see them in certain light conditions. Roll forward a few years and 'er indoors had a Ford Fiesta with a heated windscreen; again the wires were extremely fine and only noticeable in certain conditions - a la the Rolls, the wires were straight. We then had a new screen fitted due to stone damage and the replacement was obviously not genuine Ford - the wires were wavy instead of straight. It was a case of once seen they could not be unseen and I found myself looking at the wires whilst driving instead of looking through them. It took some conscious training to look through them. In 170,000mls I don't think we ever had any need to use the heated facility.

I have always wanted one and that is a decent price!
However, the cheap ice scraper is currently the affordable option for me. I might get one for the mk2 golf though at some point in the future.
Thanks for sharing this and i hope you finf your 5 orders!
