Default Brake fluid leak

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum. I purchased a 2008 V50 1.8 the other week and aside from the air conditioning not working (a separate matter) I have a noticeable brake fluid leak. The reservoir needs topping up every few days.

I've noticed spotting under the car below the gearbox. The leak seems to originate from the top of the gearbox. I want to be sure that this is Dot 4 and not gearbox oil. The fluid in the reservoir seems a little cloudy also.

There also seems to be an oil leak from the shaft seal from the gearbox, but this could just be runoff from above... It's quite hard to tell.

I've attached some images and would really appreciate any advice.

Many thanks.

Using a pressure bleeder like the Sealey VS820 would maintain a constant pressure allowing the leak source to hopefully be more obvious.

That said, if there are no brake lines in the area and you have a hydraulic clutch, a brake fluid leak around the gearbox area suggests a problem with the clutch slave cylinder.
