Default 144 Rear View Mirror

Please can anyone advise on how the interior rear view mirror stalk can be removed. There doesn't appear to be any screws fixing the base to the roof. Does it clip-off, slide-off or what? I want to take the screen out, clean-up the surround, re-fit and seal properly and thought it would be easier with the mirror removed.

What-ho!

On my 144 there is a sprung ball-and-socket arrangement, whereby should the mirror be violently engaged (eg, head moving forward very rapidly as result of sudden stoppage) it snaps out of the socket; so to remove you pull down on the mirror stalk, to replace you offer up the ball section and force it back into place, giving a little tap as required.
