Default V40 1.6 D SE Aug 2013

Hi
I am thinking of buying the above car with 23K on the clock. I currently have an S40 1.6D drive. Is the V40 a better car? Any issues I should know about? Do Volvo still do a 3 year warranty?

I have recently changed my V50 1.6D for a V40ES 1.6D2, an ex demo car with 10k on the clock. So far I have been really pleased with the V40 and enjoy driving it, I would say it drives better than the S40/V50 and has a more "premium" feel to it, more like the S/V60.
Fuel economy is about the same as my old V50, just under 60 mpg, but the insurance is around a £100 a year less. The 1.6D2 is an updated version of the old 1.6D and has a dry system dpf so does not need the eolys additive or dpf replacement at 75k miles. Best to get a car with a Volvo main dealer history and keep it serviced by Volvo.
I have not read on here about many issues with the V40. The car you are looking at should have the balance of the 3 year warranty provided it has been serviced by Volvo.
If you like the S40 then you may well like the V40 so I would say have a drive of the V40 and see what you think.

It will be quite a similar car to the old S40/V50 engine and chassis wise, still using the PSA DV6 combined with the Ford C1 platform. There will be a bit of a sacrifice in space compared to your existing car, although the wheelbase should be similar. The boot will be a bit smaller, which might be a bone of contention.

I have seen quite a few owners trade up to the V40 from the C30 and S40/V50 nonetheless and have not heard great complaints. It feels a more modern car, but is a smaller one than the latter.
