Default Cruise control not working... Suggestions??

Hi folks,

Replaced the clutch master cylinder on the T-5R the other week, and noticed cruise control wasn't working.

As always, first thing i did was pull codes, there was nothing there (1-1-1 on B2 after a run)

Noticed the switch/vacuum switch for the clutch pedal had become dislodged, so i reattached it. Still no joy.

I am aware the switches on brake pedal and clutch pedal can shift and need readjusting, but i have tried pulling the pedals back to force switches closed, but still no success.

The system was working fine until this sensor on the clutch pedal became dislodged, so i don't think its a coincidence.

All vacuum hoses seem fine, although i haven't yet removed the battery to inspect the pump. As i said - the system was working fine until the switch was dislodged.

I am thinking do i need to 'reset' the cruise system? Any way to do this??

Thanks for your help as always

Check that the throttle cable is not to loose, throttle plate should close fully when off the pedal.

Open hood, see the spring loaded drum with throttle cable, feel the cable, should be 1-2mm slack before drum moves, not more. If loose, thighten plastic adjustment nut.

Basically, if the throttle cable is to loose, the vacuum bellow will not pull on the cable more than the slack. Thus no working cruise control

Google 'volvo cruise control manual', forth entry down should find find you the '95 system manual in pdf.

Follow the diagnostic / fault tracing routine in it.

Thanks, had a look at that the other day, don't really have time to get the multimeter out though to be honest. Just thought someone might have had a quick fix before i start delving into diagnostics.

Recheck the vacuum lines to the control box under the dash. They are not very secure and easily dislodged. I went around for months thinking the thing was bu@@ered when all that had happened was that a vac line had fallen off!

Cheers

Thanks mate, didn't know there was a box under there. I had been driving with the panel under the steering column off, so there's a good chance one of the pipes might have come off if there is a control box there.

Don't suppose you have a picture of the offending control box?

Don't have the car now, but from memory it is fastened to the side of the heater box in the drivers side footwell. If you've taken the under-dash panel off from under the steering wheel the you should be able to see the cruise control box quite easily. That's assuming it is the older vac-operated type and not the newer electronic version

Cheers

Thanks, yes it is the vacuum-operated type. So just to confirm, does this box have vacuum pipes going into it, or just wires?

Thanks again for all your help!

It has both from memory - and the vac pipes fall off at the slightest touch I found!
