Default cam belt interval

Sorry if this is an old chestnut but have searched and not found a definitive answer.
It's a 2008 s40 2.0d rdesign powershift.
On a volvo maintainance sheet I found on line it says 120,000 or 10 years.
Any advice much appreciated

IMO expecting a belt to last 120 K is pushing it a bit id say 80k change interval is more prudent despite what volvo may claim, only my opiinion other learned members may well disagree

It's really very common for Ford to develop engines with long belt durability.

Most belt driven Ford applications are 10 years, and very very rarely do you hear of belt failure on a Ford; it's just one of those things that Ford seem to get right.

Many VW Group engines are 4 year intervals in the UK

Good to hear however 150,000 miles seems a hell of a change interval , I suppose its not a issue if its a non interference engine but if it is i would i think err on the side of caution

It only really is when compared to the awful attempt made by other manufacturers on the subject (ALFA/FIAT, VAG, Renault and so on).

I'm pretty sure it's in the Ford warranty guidance that the valvetrain is covered by warranty up until its first belt change, not sure if Volvo do the same thing - I'll try and dig something out

Edit: So this is probably open to scrutiny and is 50% vague and 50% quite literal:

http://www.ford.co.uk/Buyingandprote...anties/New-Car

"Scheduled maintenance items

The parts listed below have a limited service life and are either replaced or adjusted during scheduled maintenance operations. These parts are covered by the Ford Base Warranty up to the first point at which replacement or adjustment becomes due. The
period of warranty cover for any item may not exceed the time and distance limitations of the Ford Base Warranty.

Drive belts
Spark plugs
Oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, diesel particulate filter and fuel filters."

Reads to me that the base warranty on the car would cover the Drive Belt (interpreted as cam belt) up until the first scheduled replacement (i.e. 10 years or 100k).
