My one is a well maintained, unmodified example with F.S.H. (half of which is from Official Porsche Centre Main dealer) ... official service intervals are quite reasonable at 24 months or 20K miles (it uses very expensive MOBIL 1 0W40 Long Life engine oil and it needs 8.5 litres of the stuff every service) although I've been changing the oil & filter every 10K miles or 12 months (whichever comes first) as it's an older vehicle now averaging only around 5K miles per year. I also had the gearbox ATF fluid & filter changes @ my local OPC as soon as I purchased it back in 2016 as preventative measure however I don't use OPC for annual servicing as they try to rip you off on the price of already expensive engine oil. I can buy 10 litres of the MOBIL 1 0W40 for around £80 ... they want £150 !!! for 8.5 litres... it makes no financial sense. Most Genuine OE service parts can be purchased form ECP & GSF type of outlets for reasonable money these days however majority of other engine, drivetrain / transmission, electrical and interior / exterior trim parts are OPC only ... or used ones from specialist breakers, if you're lucky to find what you need. Some components are also shared with the VW Touareg but a lot fewer than you'd think. When New my Cayenne S was £65,000 back in late 2005 (it has £20K worth of options) and while these days you can find a number of the basic Cayennes (that's the one with the underpowered VAG 3.2 litre N/A 250 bhp V6) for £3000 ish in roadworthy condition I would personally avoid the cheapest examples like the plague as they are just ticking time bombs ... especially the early 2003 & 2004 Cayennes S with well known engine cylinder bore score issues (later sorted for the 2005 & 2006 end of Cayenne S 955 model line up) hence why I bought the later 955 version with the revised N/A V8 engine after many months of research. As tempting as these cheap Cayennes are, they are still expensive luxury SUV with higher then average service and running costs. If you're unlucky these have high potential to ruin your wallet, very quickly. Another problem is these are now becoming increasingly difficult to find in decent, clean and well maintained condition as majority of these have fallen into the hands of new owner who think they can run these "Champagne" motors on their limited " Coca Cola " budget with dire consequences. Ironically I purchased the XC60 D5 AWD few months ago thinking it would be a comparable replacement for the Cayenne and while my newly acquired XC60 is a very competent, decent all rounder, having owned both side by side I realise my thinking was wrong ... they just don't compare. While I have very little use or need for the Porsche anymore I'm struggling to let it go as it's such a great vehicle in its own right. This leaves me with a bit of a 1st World problem and a dilemma. Which do I sell ?

Thanks for all the info. I have always said a big petrol engined suv makes just as much (or little?) sense as a diesel for the small mpg drop. My mate had a v6 cayenne from new and I simultaneously detested it for what it was and adored it for how its made!! |

One is a luxury fully loaded sports vehicle and the other isn’t luxury for a start.

My 928 was one of the best engineered, best built cars I've owned, second only to my Lexus LS400. Both were absolutely masterpieces.
