Stromberg vs SU's
Can anyone tell me what the highs and lows are of the two carburetors in twin format are. I replaced my SU's with Strombergs when I didn't know much (I was convinced by my mechanic). I'm now contemplating as to whether I should change my other setup which is a single SU on a B18 to a single Stromberg. Some input would be greatly valued!
Also, I've been told that a twin Stromberg setup on a B18 won't work. Is this true? |

I was a motor engineer specialising in carburettors for many years. In comparison to S.U. Strombergs don't get a look in. Most spares for S.U. are still avaliable.
Webers are a different kind of carb, probably the best carb in the world (IMO) when they are correctly set-up,nothing comes near. BUT they do need skilled attention, far more so than S.U. For most usage I would recommend S.U. Pookie

S.U.'s have no diaphragms to split, the choke mechanism is far simpler, the needles and jets are easier to change. A far better unit, and spares are so easy to get. Stromberg main jets are an absolute a**e to change even with the proper setting blocks. S.U.'s are also easier to set up for a non professional as all of the screws and nuts are visible and don't sieze like the mixture adjusters on strombergs.

Here's a couple of useful articles about sorting out & setting up twin SUs
http://www.vclassics.com/archive/stoichio.htm http://www.vclassics.com/archive/sucarbs.htm & for any parts that may be needed: http://www.burlen.co.uk/ I've found their tech dept to be especially helpful

Thanks for the replies guys. Been quite informative! Does anyone know whether twin Stormbergs can be used on a B18?
