Default Volvo PowerShift gearbox

Apparently Volvo only used a wet clutch version of this Ford/Gertrag derived autobox, thus avoiding the same issues experienced with the Ford focus. That was certainly the case in 2008, when it was released, but what about six years later in 2014 T4 models?

All the powershift boxes are a heap of crap,

Seen far to many fail well before 100k

How many miles have you done? Have you been changing the oil and filter every 5000 miles?

Clutch packs slip when driving,

Internal solenoids fail and box refuses to change gear or drops out of gear randomly,

Harsh shifts into 1st and reverse,

Changing oil every 50,000 miles doesn't guarantee they will last any longer either,

The earlier boxes fitted to the 2.0d's seem worst but then they are getting older now

Didn't they iron out a lot of those creases by the 2014 MY? I thought Volvo didn't use internal solenoids and that was the Ford version. The Volvo uses hydraulic actuation.

I test drive a 2013 v 70 this week with a power shift box. It was utter pants. Bump bang, bump, clunk.
I didn't buy it.
Stick with a slush box, that's my advice and I'm following it.

Exactly what happened in my SMax. Especially the harsh shift into first. Ford denied anything was wrong so traded for a disco 4 then saw he light this year and got the XC90!

OK then I guess you don't know how many oil changes it had previously. Could have been poorly maintained.
