Hi All,
i am a noobie on these forums.
i have tried search for this info but i have come with no diffinative info..

does anyone know what date the engine change took place on the XC90 from the D5244T4 185hp to the D5244T18 200hp engine?

I know it was around end of 2010 to start 2011. but not exact date.

i am looking at buying an XC90 and i would like to get the 200hp engine.
i know the vin number will tell me but most sellers will not give out VIN numbers over the phone when you ask for it.

Changeover aruund 2010, but considerable overlap as new model year cars were ordered early, and older cars were registered later after production of the 200 had alteady begun, so there isn't an ironclad date rule to rely upon.

The V5 states the output, and a lift of the bonnet inidcates which is which - ask the seller to read the V5 to confirm it, and eyeball the engine bay when you view it, or ask them to send you a photo of the engine bay.

Sure it was from build week 46 ... may be a week or so out, but that rings a bell as it were. ... you still need the Vin to work that out though.

As far as I’m aware the 200bhp has a large D5 compared to the 185bhp. The 2012 I have the D5 is larger.

TBH, I thought it was the same engine but with software "tuning" to make the P.S./BHP difference, sure they are all 2401cc 5 cylinder lumps.

If you have at least the registration number then go to the total car check website, it will tell you the engine power listed on the V5 without you having to pay for a full check.

The change was around MY2011 but typically Volvo drip fed changes through so early 200 Bhp cars didn’t have the updated LED lights for example.
