Default Xc60 tailgate shuts straight away

Hi, i hope i can get some help.
I have the XC60 2016 model the problem im having is that however i open the tailgate (with the remote or the button on the tailgate or the button inside the car next to the petrol button) it tries to open but it shuts stright away so it opens for maybe 2cm than closes straight away. To open it o have to press one of the buttons and give it a little push up so it opens.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks

It sounds like at best you have an obstruction or at worse your struts or a strut is dying, you haven't got anything heavy attached to the outside of the boot have you?

Nothing is attached to the boot at all.
When it's open and i press the close button it closes normally, does that mean the problem is not the struts ?

Sounds like the struts, even if one, you'll need to replace both. Sounds like the spring that assists the opening of the boot inside the strut has lost its strength which will make the motor sense resistance, hence the closing.

As yours is a non SPA model, no idea how much they are, but newer cars are circa £330 each!

I'm surprised their is no repair kit for them, but imagine they are sealed.

These, power to manual conversion https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313292509775

It is strut related, when opening they have the weight to contend with, when closing gravity assists.

Next time have a listen for extra noise/grinds and it should tell you which side is bad, as S90 said they need to be done in pairs or you'll have one working harder than the other like odd tyres on the same axle.

Not the news you want to hear and the scrappy could be the best option if you can work out which one is going weak.
