Default Noisy tyres, need replacing

Well British summer time is back and my Summer tyres are back on my MY13 V70 D3 R Design. I have the factory fitted Pirelli P Zero's which have certainly lasted well (over 22k) but they are very noisy and boy do they tramline. I know the tram lining is more to do with the profile of the tyre but the noise I could live without. So.......recommend me some new tyres, that are quieter please. All makes and styles considered.

Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance tyres are a great allrounder and I've been happy with wear, performance and low-noise. They came 3rd in a recent AutoExpress tyre test for cabin noise. The best rated tyre for cabin noise was the Pirelli Cinturato P7 blue. Read more here:

We're very happy with the P7 Cinturato blue on ours, although they're 225/50R17. Also found the P7 cinturato (non blue) great on our Honda accord (225/45R17). Quiet, grippy enough, great rolling.

Having an R-Design means you have probably got 40 profile wheels on 18" rims meaning you are going to be slightly limited in your choice of "comfort" tyres than if you were on 17" 50 profile tyres.
Have a look at the ranges available on MyTyres as they'll show the tyre label ratings for fuel efficiency, wet grip & noise.
From the list of Top 5 tyres tested in the Auto Express article the Goodyear is the only one available in your size.

Thanks all. Yes I've already looked on MyTyres, and was pleasantly surprised by the choices available, and also prices seemed to have fallen since I last looked when I was putting my winters on in November. I will go for a softer compound, which I know will wear quicker, but because of the way I work, the bulk of my miles are done when my winters are on, which are cheaper so.....it all sorts itself out, sort of!

I'm currently on Continental ContiSportContact3's and I'm quite impressed with how quiet they are compared to the Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39's I was using before.

For my next set I am considering Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tyres which are rated at 68dB, compared to the Kumho's at 74dB and the Conti's at 71-73dB. The Pirelli's are rated at 72dB.

Try tyreleader.co.uk. Despite the .co.uk it is actually a German company and the Sterling values are just converted Euro prices; as the Euro plummets so do the Sterling equivalents. I have just bought four Michelin Primacy 3 225/50 R17 98V XL @ £ 93.90 each from them!

It was also a very good way to **** Nigel Farrago off; the web site is English, the company is German (like his wife), the payment was processed in France and the tyres were shipped from The Netherlands! All delivered within three days of order!

I have a trade account with tyre leader, only knocks a couple of quid off their retail prices which are pretty good to start with.
Find them great for service.
I run on 225/50/17 uniroyal Rainsport 3, I think they are one of the best tyres you can get, the wetter it is the better the handle. they don't last long though about 11000 on the front but at £153 delivered for 2 I'm quite happy.

I had a V70 r-design for a couple of years (have a V60 r-design d3 now).

The tramlining was awful and one of the reasons I sold the car. On my 225/50 17 winter wheels, it did not tramline at all and was a much nicer car to drive. My V60 on 235/ 40 18 wheels (almost the same as the V70) does not tramline in the slightest.

I also ran my V70 on several different tyres and actually found the Dunlop RT Maxx tyres very noisy and they wore quickly too. I found Conti sport 5 quieter and now have these on my V60

I do miss the huge boot of the V70 though, but not having another V70 as they dropped the r-design version!.

I run Michelin primcy 3 on the front of my xc. They are the W rated high load version 235,55,17 in comparison to the pirelli zeros on the back they are whisper quiet and I have no tramlineing even on motorways you can see the ruts on. Grip wise I find them far superior to the worn zeros they replaced. Another pair will be going on the back when the pirrellis are replaced. Cost me £120+ the vat a tyre, had quotes form £108+ vat up to £160+ vat for the zeros, for the extra £12 I went with my favoured brand.
I run at the eco pressure of 40 psi all round all the time.

Paul.
