Someone should start a new thread naming and shaming those dealers who won't honour a problem, as 205 pages definitely makes it a common problem. Volvo did pay 75% of costs on my EGR problem.
so VOLVO in orpington paid 75% thank you, but I think you should have paid it all ? you're more than welcome to reimburse me (reg no fd14 xtf) and I would be happy to edit my post to state you had done the right thing and maybe just maybe business would improve ?? Food for thought. Last edited by smudgers; Mar 12th, 2019 at 22:34. |

I think it depends on the negotiating power or skills of the dealership with Volvo UK.
A couple of months after my engine replacement, I had total clutch failure. The dealership (Rybrook Warrington) said Volvo first offered a contribution of 20% as the car is over 4 years old, but they managed to negotiate an increase to 80% and they themselves would chip in 10% to make it a 90% contribution which left me £100 to pay. So I've had nearly 10 grands worth of 'goodwill' so far....

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the negotiating power of the dealer with Volvo. It is whether the dealer can be bothered to actually do any of the paperwork.
Lloyd Volvo in Carlisle are a case in point - they simply couldn't be bothered to do the leg work with Volvo UK, and it took me raising a complaint with Volvo Customer services for them to get in touch with Volvo Carlisle for some facts..... Volvo Carlisle then told Volvo UK that my car had not been serviced properly which was why they refused to do anything - despite the fact that they never saw the service history of my car. It took me providing details of the service history (one of which was done outside the dealer network) for essentially Volvo Customer Services to tell Lloyd Volvo Carlisle to put in a claim with the Warranty department at Volvo UK. So after a month of me doing a lot of pushing and arguing I got the full cost of the replacement of the EGR Cooler repaid. |

Do these problems mainly affect the earlier 181BPB engine or is the 190 also affected?

I'd be interested in any (from heresay to definitive!) info on this.
There is a well written thread from a sufferer on Honest John stating that the initial D4 190s were just as badly affected but it's been rectified in cars built since May 2016. I'll be speaking to the service department at my dealer next month when i take in my D2 V40 for views on this - will post anything interesting. Such a shame - D4 181s and early 190s are so plentiful and cheap, I would most certainly be in one now if it wasn't for this issue. |

Had the engine checklight come on about a month ago and read the code with ECM PO4D900 stored Low EGR flow.
Booked into Squire Furneaux - Leatherhead yesterday and was first advised if cooler 100% Volvo to cover the cost but if egr valve then 50% Volvo to cover the cost. In the end they contacted me to say cooler, egr and a new hose kit needed fitting and volvo met 100% cost. Car is 2014 d4 v60 business edition with 110,000 miles with last service being at a Volvo independent (all volvo before that one - ex lease car). So full main dealer service history is not required. That dealer is good for EGR fix.

Today I suffered a breakdown due to what I believe to be an EGR fault, although not the typical one... Intermittent loss of power, which got worse over about 30 minutes of driving until I got a "reduced engine power" message (featuring a tortoise) then performance reduced to such a level that I struggled to pull away from a standstill or go faster than about 10MPH and there was severe kangarooing. So I stopped and called Volvo recovery and the car is now at a dealer for 'diagnostics'.
However I carry an ELM327 so plugged it in to see what codes had come up and found the following:- P2413 (logged) P00be (pending) P00bf (pending) P2262 (pending) I'm pretty sure they weren't there before, as I went through a phase of getting a P014c (relating to the exhaust manifold oxygen sensor being sooted-up) so regularly look to see if it's pending (it never is any more). According to Google, the P2413 is probably due to the EGR valve sticking open and I assume the other codes relate to the effect that has upon MAF? Anyone else seen this, of have any suggestions? I'm a bit concerned that this ISN'T the usual EGR blockage fault commonly reported in this thread, so may fall outside of Volvo goodwill!
